The whole "Bella" & "Edward" thing is lost on Me.

We all went through high school, right? I'm sure we all lost a love or two in the process. What's that you say? You married your high school sweetheart?? Well, it could happen I suppose but not if your high school boyfriend is Edward from the Twlight books.
I mean don't get me wrong,I like the Twilight series. I eventually got passed the whining from Bella, the decisions she made that were DUMB, her cluelessness about life...But let's be fair here, she is a teenager. When we are honest with ourselves we can admit that we are A LOT smarter than our teenage selves. I often wonder what it would be like if I went back in time to my former teenage self and had a conversation with myself.

Older Me: So are you ever going to talk to M? I mean you have only been writing poetry to him forever.

Younger Me: If he finds out I like him, he will never like me EVER. It is safer like this.

Older Me: Then what about his friend, J? He seems to think you are beautiful. I mean that is his nickname for you.

Younger Me: J? You know what the popular people would say if I went out with J? you gotta be joking. Ha! Ha!

Older Me: And one more thing, You most certainly do NOT know everything! I know more than you ever will!

Just a thought. I was very insecure in high school. Back to Edward/Bella/Jacob.
Your love leaves you. He tells you he is doing it for you, he just can't be with you right now, and he will ALWAYS love you but that he is going away and that you should not worry, AND.... (You get my point.)

Enter your best friend, who just so happens to be a guy. (A very good looking guy I might add.) "I won't ever go away." You and your best friend continue to hang out together until you find yourself falling in love with him. At first it was strictly friendly, but soon you come to realize it is he that you love.
Your "love" comes back. He says he is sorry that he left and he wants to pick it up where you left off. You and this guy best friend are really close now. You think you might be falling for him. Do you just leave your guy best friend for the so-called love that left you? (I wouldn't. I would stand by the person who stuck by me through my tears, my lonelieness, my confusion.)

In essence, that is what Jacob did for Bella. And look at what he got for it. Bella chose Edward in the end. Who wants to cuddle up to something that is so cold anyway? I don't get it. I just don't get it.

All you Twilight fans out there, who did YOU choose and why?

All you NON-Twilight fans out there, I gave you the scenario. Would you choose the love that left you, or your friend you are starting to fall in love with?

I hope this picture won't persuade any of you to turn to Jacob. But here, take a look.

Did any of you change from Edward to Jacob now? :)

Good question...
The tough thing is, our hearts don't think as logically as our heads do. So, while it may seem clear that the friend who stood by you and helped you through your crisis *should* be the one you choose, sometimes there is just a magnetic force that someone outside of the relationship can't fathom.
(As much as I *want* to be a practical thinker, I'm absolutely on Team Edward!)

I am not the Twilight fan, but my son and BFF are big fans so I get little tidbits here and there.

My younger me...sure I'll take you back. I missed you to....

Older me - hell no, you left once...off you go
BTW Jacob is way hotter (my middle age hormones are talking, can't shut them up)

I was always team Edward. I mean you can't help who you fall in love with. You just do. Jacob creeps me out, especially in the last book. PLus I thought it was rude of Jacob to try to change Bella's mind. I mean Jacob was different too so he had no right to discriminate.

In short you can't help who you fall in love with. Love is blind and unconditional.

Hmmm, interesting scenario, both in the book and in real life. I enjoyed the Twilight books, but they weren't up to par with the writing in some places, and that really started to bug me.

We make decisions based on our experiences up to that point in our life. We can't look at them with more mature eyes until we are able to look at the situation in hindsight. I give my younger self some slack occasionally because I am so glad I learned from the experience. It took a while to get to that point, but I think I'm there now.

LOL! I was Team Jacob from the second book! He was the best friend that was there when Bella needed him. But, he always let her know that he wanted more, but would take what he could get. And, I agree with the "who wants to cuddle up to something cold!" Give me someone who's going to keep me warm on the cold nights!!

Well I just think the books are silly and that she should have gone for the human dude. Can't remember his name. Love this post though.

Oh! And I got my goodies today! Thank you! Thank you! You rock!!

Jacob.

I don't even have to hesitate. Jacob. Jacob. JACOB.

As for the rest... I remember high school very clearly, and back then, everything was one big emotion after another. If it was me then, yes, I would have taken Edward back, sad to say. Me now? Not on your life!

However, I am happily married to my high school sweetheart :) 7 years together and counting!

PS: You totally should have made that pic of Jacob bigger... *drools a little*

Um... in the book, Jacob seems a little... immature. I personally like Edward (mmmmm), and besides, it's not like it matters about his body temperature... Bella is SO there!

Ok. ok. I agree with almost all of your comments. I guess I have to realize that Bella is a teenager and she is not 33 like me. (Did I just say my age outloud?) When I am really honest with myself I probably would have chosen Edward when I was younger. There I said it. But I am older and wiser now and Jacob is the one I choose now. And you are right Lisa, you can't choose who you fall in love with. Love is blind especially in our YOUTH (when most of what talks is the hormones...)
THANKS for all the GREAT comments! I appreciate them ALL!

While I read the books I was torn because Jacob seemed so great - plus he's 6'7" at the end and that's pretty appealing to almost 6' little ol' me. But Edward doesn't become a dog so that's nice too.
